Effective leading-edge classroom practice
School: Barking Abbey School, Essex
This is a large 11-19 Comprehensive school.
Activity: "Effective cutting edge activities for classroom practice" - Organisation of a twilight, school-based inset. Rhinoss provided a team of consultants to run a series of practical workshops to groups of 20-22 staff.
Topics covered:
- Revision skills
- Classroom mangement
- Problem solving/thinking skills
- Raising boys' achievements
- Learning styles
- Mind-mapping
- Emotional intelligence
Each of the consultants presented a topic which was related to real classroom practice, so that the staff could leave the session with ideas/tasks for them to follow up and cascade to other members of staff.
Outcome: A tremendously well received programme which fulfilled all the expectations of the school. Staff evaluations for all the workshops were extremely complimentary, particularly about delivery, content and relevance to classroom practice.
