Hormones With Attitude!
School: Maidstone Grammar School
This is a large sized 11-19 Grammar School
Activity: "Hormones with Attitude" was a whole day school based interactive seminar about ways to raise the achievement of boys and how to tackle issues surrounding improving their behaviour. The seminar, which took place in the school hall, was attended by over 100 members of staff. A café style layout for the venue provided an atmosphere which was informal, yet lent itself to individual, paired or group working activities. A balance of inputs included a review of the Channel 4 programme "Why men don't iron", current research findings, exploration of case studies and practical demonstrations using support materials. Most importantly, opportunities were provided to work on classroom and school based action research.
Outcome: A very enjoyable and informative session which allowed all the staff to participate, share experiences, raise issues and find possible solutions which could be immediately used in the classroom.
