Persuaders of the Lost Spark!
School: The Kings School
This is a medium sized 11-19 Comprehensive Forces School located in West Germany.
Activity: "Persuaders of the Lost Spark" - a one day interactive course for all the school staff focused upon ways to re-invigorate the learning environment by providing effective learning opportunites with high expectations. The INSET programme identified the key components of effective teaching (G2O) and learning in relation to the management of learners in the classroom and included such aspects as "high status" behaviour, guidelines for differentaition, dynamics of positive activity management and the use of peronalised learning materials.
Outcome: The evaluations clearly showed that all staff had used the opportunity to take part in a range of very informative sessions which were practical, enjoyable, challenging and yet gave them time to reflect on key issues surrounding established practices which needed revisiting. This INSET programme was quickly followed up by a request from the SMT of the school for further series of activites in such areas as lesson observation training and strategies for improving standards.
